Larry Hovis

-A Hogan's Heroes spinoff show was in the works that would have featured the children of the "Heroes" during the Cold War. Larry was asked to be a writer for the show but the idea fell though after Bob Crane was murdered.

-Larry was one of the creators and a regular writer for the TV show Laugh-In but didn't recieve an Emmy statue with the other writers in 1968 because his name was left off of the credits.

-Had his voice change permanently from soprano to baratone on stage at the age of 14 while performing onstage with his sister Joan.

-Larry didn't appear in two Hogan's Heroes episodes because he was performing as the opening act for Diahann Carroll in Vegas.

-Appeared on the 70's game show "Cop Out" but the show never aired until GSN played it on an "Unsold Pilots" marathon in 2000.

-Worked for CBS and NBC at the same time.

-Did not want to take off his wedding band on Hogan's Heroes, so the producers let him wear gloves to hide it.

-Larry, along with Richard Dawson and Sigrid Valdis refused to continue filming the Hogan's Heroes episode "Monkey Business" because the trainer was beating the chimp with chains.

-Backstage at the set of Hollywood Place, Larry was outside taking a smoke break and noticed a strange woman trying to take off with one of Bing Crosby's kids. He stopped the woman and took the child to Bing's assistant and promised not to tell anyone as long as the assisitant agreed to keep a better eye out for the child.

-Was in the film "Waiting for Guffman" but his part was cut out.

-Larry did a Dodge commerical in LA in the 70's that was directed by Hogan's Heroes director Jerry London.

-Served in the National Guard in the late 50's.

-Wrote the material Frank Sutton's Vietnam act along with writing material for several other acts such as Sonny and Cher and Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. Larry was still under contract with CBS and Hogan's Heroes during this time, so the shows and celebrites presented him with various gifts because it would have been illegal to pay him money for his writings.

-The Mascots were originally called The Four Spades but were convinced by Arthur Godfrey to change their name in order for radio stations to play their music in the 1950's. A contest was held on a Texas radio station for fans to pick out a new name for the group and Mascots was chosen. (The O'Jays were once called The Mascots as well)

-Had bronchitius while recording the "My Heart Belongs To Only You" LP.

-In Chile and the Philippines, Larry is famous as a 50's pop star, not as an actor like he is in the US and Germany.

-Was a host of a local daytime show called Surprise Party on Houston's KTRK-TV in the 1950's. He was fired for calling the sponsor a knothead on the air.

-Wrote for many TV specials with actress Ann Elder.

-Was born on a Yakima Indian Reservation.

-Larry's favorite song was "Rainbow Connection" by Kermit. He was also a big fan of Lambert, Hendricks, & Ross.
